Zechariah is his proclamation from the Lord shares about the coming Messiah. I'm sure this wasn't fully clear to Zechariah, but today it is to us.
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zech 9:9
Jesus in Matthew 21 does just this. He rides on an unbroken donkey as people shout "Hosannah in the highest". Their thoughts weren't on the conquering of inner sin but overthrowing a tyrannical world system. Yet Jesus comes humbly setting up the coming kingdom of eternal spiritual life.
Do we follow Jesus in how He lived and led? Spurgeon said, "Brethren, let us be lowly. Did I hear one say, 'Well, I will try to be lowly'? You cannot do it in that way. We must not try to act the lowly part; we must be lowly, and then we shall naturally act in a humble manner. It is astonishing how much of pride there is in the most modest."
Today, realizing the King of kings came humbly would you pray for a humble heart?
Father, help us to approach all with a heart of humility by Your Spirit. Amen!
