Who’s your best friend? Who do you talk to about some of your most intimate thoughts?

“You have ravished my heart, My sister, my spouse; You have ravished my heart With one look of your eyes, With one link of your necklace. How fair is your love, My sister, my spouse! How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices! A garden enclosed Is my sister, my spouse, A spring shut up, A fountain sealed.” Song of Solomon 4:9-10, 12

The Beloved writes, “My sister, my spouse” three times in this chapter and will repeat twice more in the next. Right in the middle of some of the most descriptive physical intimacy he writes, “my sister”. The depth of that intimacy rested in the depth of the friendship they shared with each other.

Other than Jesus the person we run to the most with our thoughts, dreams, and desires should be our spouse. Not our best male or female friend, but our spouse. Do you have that type of friendship with your spouse? Intimacy is given life by the friendship you share with your spouse. Be friends. Be lovers. Be blessed.

Not married? Relationships can bloom out of friendships. Being great friends is the first step of having great relationships. Be friends. Be patient. Be blessed.
