“By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him.” Song of Solomon 3:1

Was there any chance the Shulamite didn’t desire her Beloved? Her actions should speak to us all, husband or wife. She very much pursued him.

On the other hand, “Who is this coming out of the wilderness Like pillars of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, With all the merchant’s fragrant powders? Behold, it is Solomon’s couch, With sixty valiant men around it, Of the valiant of Israel.” Song of Solomon 3:6-7

Was there any chance the Beloved didn’t desire his Shulamite? He being perfumed with spices and fragrant with powders in arrival of her speaks very much of him pursuing her.

Whether yet to be married, newly married, or married 5, 10, 20, 40 years… And so, on are you still pursuing your spouse?

I can be as guilty as the next spouse of getting distracted, busy, or nonchalant, forgetting the importance of pursuing my bride. Don’t allow life to distract you from pursuing your spouse. Pursing one another works both ways. I’m aware at this moment it’s time to take my wife out on a date. Just her and I. It’s been too long, maybe for you too?

Not married? Learn to pursue Jesus. Your singleness is a gift. As you learn to pursue Christ now, He will help you to be steadfast in the pursuit of your future spouse. Even if you have no plans to get married our first pursuit should always be Jesus.
