The Guinness Book of World Records holds some crazy records: Natural nails at 28ft and 4in, longest mustache at 14ft, spinning a basketball on a toothbrush for 1min and 8sec, balancing 79 spoons on one’s body, and inventing the tallest hat at 15ft and 9in tall.

John sees the bottomless pit being opened and Satan being cast into it. He sees those living who had been beheaded for not following Satan. Then he sees a great white throne and books being opened up. People were being judged according to their works that were written in the books… or according to their name written in the Book of Life. In the Gospels we read about an interaction between Jesus and His disciples, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

It’s our works… or Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Our record of rights and wrongs… or Jesus’ record of right and wrongs. We could live an almost perfect life living morally the best we can and still fall short. The records have been kept. We often compare ourselves with others thinking we live better than they do, but the comparison should be with the perfect and Jesus.

The Bible makes it clear we need to be hidden in Christ. He is Life, in Jesus we have eternal life. What happens if your name isn’t in the Book of Life? “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15

It’s either we go before a perfect God on our own works or on Jesus’ finished work at the cross. I pray your name is written in the Book of Life by the blood of Christ.
