What do you find hope in? Really… consider for a minute in times of uncertainty what or who you run too. In transparency, at times I find many things to run to other than Jesus.

We read about a system (government or city) which has fed people the life of luxury and satisfaction for a time, but soon is no more. We read, “The merchants of the world will weep and mourn for her, for there is no one left to buy their goods. She bought great quantities of gold, silver, jewels, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet cloth; things made of fragrant thyine wood, ivory goods, and objects made of expensive wood; and bronze, iron, and marble. She also bought cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, wagons, and bodies—that is, human slaves. “The fancy things you loved so much are gone,” they cry. “All your luxuries and splendor are gone forever, never to be yours again.”” Revelation 18:11-14

At some point the things we run to for comfort and pleasure will leave us wanting and empty… and will come to an end. We are busied and manipulated with luxuries and riches even today. I personally can get caught up myself and lose focus on what and who’s important.

Are you caught up now, enticed by the list we just read? As we stay entangled with these things the grip only gets tighter.

Father, I ask You show me the things I am entangled in that don’t matter. Give me strength to let go of whatever is entangling me now. Help me to not get busied and manipulated with riches and luxuries and forget about You and Your kingdom. Thank You for Your unending grace. In Jesus name, Amen!
