Grown men circumcision! Yep… that’s what is part of the reading today. So much in this chapter but let me share what stuck out to me. When you read feel free to share with me what stuck out to you, but back to circumcision.   Circumcision happened on the eighth day of a child’s life. Science has found out it takes time for vitamin K to be produced in a newborns body, of matter of fact some of the highest levels are on the 8th day. This is the time the Bible says to circumcise a male child. Vitamin K helps to clot the blood. Look it up if you don’t believe me :)

Anyway, a sign of the covenant was circumcision. 40 years they had been released from bondage and the generation who had watched the Lord free them chose not to circumcise their children as they were commanded too.

“This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant.” Genesis 17:10-12

Now, the Lord has them in the enemy’s territory. This place was the strongest area of the enemy (they crossed over near Jericho remember) and now are told to circumcise all males, even adults. I don’t have to tell you how vulnerable this made them. Circumcision was a sign that spoke to them not being like the other nations but even this was a level up in obedience knowing this would make them vulnerable to their enemy since they had already crossed the Jordan.

There are times where our obedience to the Father will make us vulnerable to the world. Also, maybe the generation that raised you wasn’t obedient, don’t let that affect your decision to obey (circumcise your heart, Romans 2:29). There is a blessing in obedience. A blessing in turning away from the drifting tide of the world and living intentional in loving God and loving people for glory of the Lord. What will you choose this day? (Joshua 24:15)
