The last thing Jesus spoke to His disciples after 3ish years of intense ministry, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33

Then Jesus prays! It doesn’t say Jesus prayed; we read “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,” (John 17:1).

We understand He prayed because He spoke words to the Father. Praying is simply talking to the Father. You can speak out loud or not. You can lift your head or not. What’s important is you talk to the Father. Pray like Jesus!

Jesus prayed for:

His Father’s will to be done (v2-5)

for His disciples (v5-19)

for future disciples (v20)

for unity (v21-23)

for the love of Father to be known (v24-26)

Jesus lasts words to this group of men reminded them tribulation would happen, but peace would be found in Him. Then He prayed over them. Jesus knew what He was about to go thru and His last words to them were a reminder of where peace can be found and His last action before His crucifixion was to pray.

Peace is found in Christ not in this world. Jesus made a way to be one with the Father as He was. Lacking peace? Maybe it’s because you aren’t spending time with the Father like Jesus did! In this world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer Jesus has overcome the world. Go to Him! Legit, the only thing standing in the way of our peace is our absence in His presence.
