LOVE! More than a saying but an action word. Challenging at times but let’s not say we love but then not show we love. We are to put love into action.
“Jesus…having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” John 13:1 partial
We see Jesus washing feet. The most menial of tasks at the time. Judas, his betrayer sits at the table with Him. Jesus hasn’t treated Judas any different even when He knew he lied and deceived Him. We know this because His disciples had no clue Judas was His betrayer. Jesus knew Peter would deny Him yet didn’t treat Him different either. Jesus knew His disciples would abandon Him but didn’t treat them any different. All this His disciples would soon recognize this and it would transform their lives.
Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
Jesus chose to love even when there wasn’t a reason to love from an earthly perspective. “Jesus knowing… that He had come from God and was going to God,” (John 13:3 partial). He knew where He came from and where He was going. He had purpose and that purpose was to love. It is choosing to love one another that shows we are His disciples. Will you choose love in betrayal? In denial? In response to lies and deceit? It’s hard I know, but it is the way of the follower of Jesus. Jesus chose love let’s do the same!
