The freedom and power of choice! Choice is one of man’s greatest gifts from God. When we look at Scripture, we see Jesus had the freedom of choice as well.

First, let’s recognize one of the “I AM” statements are in this chapter, “Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7). When Jesus says this, He is accused of having a demon in Him. Jesus would soon be threatened by being stoned to death for blasphemy (claiming to be God).

Look at what Jesus says, ““Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”” John 10:17-18

Jesus chose. He willingly gave up His life. He was 100% God and 100% man (it’s called hypostatic union). He made decisions like you and me make every day. He had to be intentional the same way we need to be. What are you doing with your choices? Are they choices that express your love for the Father? What about your love for others? Jesus made choices that left Him vulnerable in this world because He trusted that His Father had Him and His brothers and sisters in the palm of His hand (verse 29). You have the freedom and power to choose. It’s one of the greatest gifts that’s been given to you. Choose wisely. Choose love.
