Maybe you have watched the movie “ADRIFT”. It’s a true story about a couple that ends of drifting while sailing across the ocean.

Much to read in Hebrews 2 but first some context. It’s important to understand it was written to Christians (Followers of Jesus). Also, tradition and biblical references speak to the law given to Moses with the help of angels. Now, read with me, “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?” Hebrews 2:1-4

When we read the Gospel of John Jesus spoke of the Father, Holy Spirit, Moses, and His works testifying of the deity of Jesus (John 5). Good correlating verses for this section of Scripture!

But it says, give heed to the things you have heard LEST YOU DRIFT AWAY! The KJV here says “earnest heed” which is basically saying “abundant application”. Believer (follower of Christ) do something with what you’ve heard. Don’t just hear… DO! James (brother of Jesus) writes about this as well in James 1:22-25.

There is little, if any, life in drifting. And the word after drift speaks volumes too, “away” … when we drift it’s not drifting in the same place but away from what you’ve been taught (or heard). To do nothing is actually to do something because we are choosing to be led by the currents of the world and the flesh. So… boldly let me say… let’s do something! Let’s not drift, but press into Jesus, press into reading the Bible, press into putting on encouraging music. Let our main influences in what we watch and who we hang out with be in the current of the Kingdom of God. I’m not talking about legalism; I am talking about getting in the stream of the Father and Holy Spirit. I’m talking about letting our relationship with Jesus and His church be something we press in towards, so we don’t drift away. And let’s be influencers ourselves for the Kingdom of God. Look for that drifter and help them to drift no more!
