Today we start reading through Joshua. It’s page 153 in my Bible. :) One of my favorite books. If you have been reading the devos but haven’t yet joined in reading along with us start today with Joshua 1.

Paul writes, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

What does it mean to bear one another’s burdens? Well, we can surmise in order to bear someone else’s burden there must be intentionality to know the person and have a deeper relationship than just surface level.

Did you read Joshua 1? The Israelites were finally crossing the Jordan after spending 40 years in the wilderness. Moses had passed the baton of leadership to Joshua. Some of the tribes of Israel had been given land on the east side of the Jordan already. Battles with people of the land waited for Israel over the Jordan, so they could occupy the land. What does Joshua ask the tribes who had already settled their land?

““Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.’ Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But you shall pass before your brethren armed, all your mighty men of valor, and help them, until the Lord has given your brethren rest, as He gave you, and they also have taken possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrise.”” Joshua 1:13-15

Essentially Joshua is saying, “bear one another’s burdens. (You and your family might have rest but there is more to occupy).” The same is true today, you may have rest in Christ but there are still more souls of men and women hanging in the balance where you live, work, and play. Let’s bear one another’s burdens. Let’s live out what Christ has worked in so that others can, “taste and see the Lord is good”.
