Paul is writing this letter to the “churches in Galatia” which is modern day Turkey if you were to look at a map. This was a province of multiple churches.

The letter was written around 57 AD, so around 24 years after the death of Christ. We will learn through reading this letter the people were already trying to add to the gospel. Instead of fully relying on grace they were mingling in a works based (earned) gospel. Look how Paul begins his letter:

“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-7

Let’s remember, “who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Galatians 1:4-5

1- Jesus gave Himself for our sins. He was sinless, He was perfect, and He did all the work.

2- We are delivered from our sins and that delivery takes place immediately “present evil age”.

3- God the Father willed Jesus would do what He did, and Jesus obediently did it.

4- It happened for God’s glory. The gospel glories in the grace of God.

It is by God’s grace that salvation comes to you and me. It is a gift from Him. Let’s rest in the finished work of Christ. Let’s rest in His grace. When we understand grace if changes and transforms who we are.
