Bringing a knife to a gun fight is probably not the best strategy. I hope you aren’t going to many gun fights by the way, but if so, praying for you!

In verse 7 the Bible says, “Do you look at things according to the outward appearance?” We have been taught to handle situations in life in a worldly context. It’s the truth whether or not we want to receive it, but there are two kingdoms: The kingdom of this world and the kingdom of heaven, which one do you take your strategy of fighting from?

Paul may have looked weak in moments. But he was fighting for the kingdom of God. When we read these next verses we could consider this physical but it is really spiritual, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-6

When I choose to submit my life to the teachings of Christ and choose my relationship with Jesus to be first, I am fighting a spiritual battle with weapons from a different kingdom. I can put down my knives. Those knives can be defined as anger, frustration, or revenge. I pick up spiritual weapons (the gun) which is love, obedience, and sacrifice. It may look weak to this world but picking these things up we can be reminded of Jesus’ words before Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” John 18:36

Our fight is for the kingdom of heaven. Even if it looks like we are losing. Souls are at stake. Let’s fight together by loving God and loving others. Remember, the battle is always spiritual not physical.
