Instruction is given in Proverbs which says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” Then we read in Psalm 90, “So teach us to number our days, that we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom.” Psalms 90:12

In the 3 Psalms we read today there’s a definite range of emotion and feelings. Down in the dumps, anger, hope, and excitement. Life is full of ups and downs, and we can all agree hard.

What must we do? Guard our hearts and learn to bring the Lord a heart of wisdom. This means we have the ability to lead our heart. We don’t guard our hearts by being a recluse. Hiding doesn’t do our hearts good. But on the contrary, we spiritually lead our hearts by the power of His Spirit. During times of ups and downs we show ourselves witness of Jesus (Acts 1:8).

I’ll end with a quote from John Eldridge, “We are at war, and the bloody battle is over our hearts… We live in the spiritual equivalent of a war-torn country. Watch over your heart. Don’t let just anything in; don’t let it just go anywhere. What’s this going to do to my heart? Is a question that I ask in ever my situation.”

What if we prayed every day, “O Lord God, help me measure my days and ask of everything I confront: What will this do to my heart? “
