It is believed David, King of Israel, recorded this Psalm nearer to the end of his life. He writes, “Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me; For I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You! Be merciful to me, O Lord, For I cry to You all day long. Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.” Psalms 86:1-4

Notice he says, “for I am poor and needy… save your servant... the soul of your servant”. Remember this is King David. He had defeated many kingdoms by this time and Israel was a powerhouse yet when talking to the Lord he recognizes his smallness and God’s greatness.

It doesn’t matter how strong we think we are or how much power we think we possess. Stop for a second and listen to your heartbeat, the air move through your lungs and out into the atmosphere… you listening? The Lord did that and He deserves to be worshiped. May we each recognize the Lord’s greatness and strength, and not our own. May we call out to the Lord today, tomorrow, and the next…

“Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.” Psalms 86:11-13
