Patriotism, Nationalism, Christendom…

Psalm 80 is considered to align with Israel in Babylonian Captivity (Daniel 7). Recorded in this psalm is, “You have made us a strife to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.” Psalms 80:6

Israel, God’s chosen people were now in captivity after of years of rebelliousness, idolatry, and rejection of Him. The Psalmist recognizes the Lord’s sovereignty over every nation. America, and other nations, may not have a covenant per say with the Lord nationally but the church within each nation enters a covenant with the Lord for sure. Each of us individually submit to Christ and His Lordship. We turn away from rebelliousness and idolatry. Taste and see how good the Lord is, the psalmist writes. As we live for Christ we pray, “Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!” (Psalms 80:7), for those in our nation and world who continue to walk in rejection of the Lord.

Every nation who rejects the Lord and His ways are as the psalmist records, “You have made us a strife to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.” Psalms 80:6

Let’s live in the world but not of the world and pray for our nation, and others, who have become a strife to their neighbors and laughingstock to their enemies.
