A high-level government officer has an affair with the wife of one of his generals. She gets pregnant. To attempt a cover up the general is sent to war in a conspiracy to get him killed. Sounds like an article from the current news huh. This was King David, Bathsheba, and Uriah.

Afterward, Nathan the prophet confronts King David in 2 Samuel 12, King David repents (consequences still ensue though). Psalm 51 is David’s prayer of repentance. Psalm 32 we believe is his response to the forgiveness of the Lord.

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit, there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah, I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah” Psalms 32:1-5

There’s nothing you can do the Lord hasn’t forgiven someone at some point for already. Are you holding on to sin in your life He has already forgiven you for? Have you asked forgiveness for sin you’ve committed? David said, “When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

Confess your sin to the Lord. And when you do know the Lord’s forgiveness is greater than even the gravest of sin. Turn to the Lord. Lay down those sins plaguing your life. Mercy, gladness, and joy await those who lay it all down at the foot of the cross. Let the Spirit of the Lord prompt you and draw you nearer to Him.
