“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12-13

The psalmist writes, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.” Psalms 127:1-2

Unless the Lord… speaking spiritually there is a reality we need to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” but we can’t do that until we recognize “it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” We can spend our whole lives building, laboring, and guarding and it amounts to nothing without the Lord.    I’ve built, labored, and guarded physically without getting anywhere spiritually at times. We are encouraged, “while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” II Corinthians 4:18

You working on the temporary house or an eternal one? Unless the Lord…
