“Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.” Proverbs 4:5-6

At the beginning of Solomon’s reign as king the Lord asked him what he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom, and it was granted to Him along with much more. Near the end of Solomon’s life, he wrote Ecclesiastes. Reading Ecclesiastes, you can tell he was given over to working for his reputation, desiring riches, and giving into lust. To one of the wisest in history life was vanity in the end. He forsook godly wisdom and understanding for fleshy desires. And what did it do for him? Left him empty and wanting.

You can pursue things of this world. They’re enticing and may fulfill you for the moment but in the end, it will lead to a life of vanity.

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:23, 25-27
