Your heart… this chapter in Proverbs speaks many things about the heart. It opens with encouraging a heart check in a certain situation and then continues speaking about our hearts in several more proverbs throughout the chapter.

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.” Proverbs 23:7

“Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.” Proverbs 23:12

“My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself;” Proverbs 23:15

“Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day;” Proverbs 23:17

“Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way.” Proverbs 23:19

“My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways.” Proverbs 23:26

One thing for sure it seems we have the ability to guide our hearts. “For as he thinks in his heart”, “apply your heart”, “do not let your heart envy”, “guide your heart”, “give your heart”. We direct our hearts by what we take in, mediate on, and surround ourselves with. When we practice being in the presence of the Lord and spend time meditating on His Word our hearts shift and move more freely in Christ. The choice is yours!
