Fear of the Lord, ay…

“He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord...” Proverbs 14:2

“In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:26-27

To “fear the Lord” is to revere Him. This isn’t fear as in afraid. Look at the description in Proverbs, “strong confidence”, “place of refuge”, “fountain of life”, and “turning away from death”. Do those terms describe “fear” in the context of scared? Absolutely not!

The Father doesn’t desire to take away from us because of fear but to give life and life abundantly. Jesus says in John 10:10, “… I have come for you to have life, life more abundantly.”

When we’re reverent to the Lord we walk in boldness and strength, and in safety and in the overflow of His goodness. To fear the Lord is to have confidence in whose you are, what He says about you, and in His plans for you. Stop looking down, back, or around… look up in reverence for the Lord!
