Believing the best…

Paul writes this letter to Philemon. Understanding the context, we know that Onesimus was once a bondservant to Philemon but ran away. While on the run Onesimus meets Paul, hears the gospel, and gives his life to Jesus. Paul says of Onesimus, “I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains, who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me.” Philemon 1:10-11

He also writes to Philemon, “Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.” Philemon 1:21

Paul believed in his heart Philemon would forgive Onesimus and treat him as a brother. Paul trusted the Lord and believed the Holy Spirit would handle the results. This situation could have gone down many different ways but the point we can conclude is Paul believed the best and trusted the Lord with the results.

How about us… do we handle situations like this? What if the situation turned out different than Paul expected? Maybe the situation could turn out different than we expected? We are called to a life of faith. A life where we believe in the best and leave the results up to the Lord. How will you handle your tomorrow? Plan on believing the best?
