Blessings… you may have immediately thought of financial, or material increases when you read the word “blessings” … but the Lord has so much more in store than just physical blessings.

This chapter talks about the ins and outs of the Nazirite vow. You may remember that Paul took one. The famous Samson also took one and violated it many times. There are many examples of people taking this vow throughout history.

Notice the blessing at the end of the chapter. When Jesus first sent out the disciples, He told them if they received them give them your peace, if not “shake off the dust of your feet”. There was an importance of the blessing. Throughout history blessings have been important. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob blessing their kids. Even the blessings of little girls from their mother. We read here, “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’ “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”” Numbers 6:22-27

A blessing is much like “putting your name upon a person”. Extending yourself for those around you. The Lord’s blessing is having His name upon you wherever you may go. If you are His son or daughter His name is upon you wherever you may go. A blessing is important. Receive His blessing and give a blessing. Nothing He gives you is meant to be boarded but to be extended. So be blessed but be a blessing!
