One definition of settling is “accepting or agreeing for something less than or satisfactory”.

Years have passed by now and the generation who disobeyed the Lord had passed. The next generation is about to enter the promised land. Israel had just come off great victorious battles. They’re on the verge of obtaining the word of the Lord spoken years ago. Two tribes (ends up more join) come to Moses, “Therefore they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.” Numbers 32:5

They give reasons why the land is great for them but consider being so close to all the Lord has for you and settling for the outskirts of the promised land. After Moses confronts them, they agree to join the battle for the promised land and leave their wives and children behind. So close but so far away.

How many times do we settle for most of what the Lord has for us? “This looks good.” we say or “I’m fine with that.” We get comfortable where we’re at in life. We settle into a comfortable place and are content with less than all the Lord has for us. Let’s cross the Jordan Church. Let’s go after all the Lord has for us. He wants us to trust Him and go after Kingdom pursuits. Will you or will you settle for less than His best?
