Handshakes and contracts! Much has changed over the years.

“If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.” Numbers 30:2

The Lord is explaining to Israel the importance of keeping your word. Even going into detail on vows dealing with different type relationships. Why? The Lord wants to see our relationships with Him, and others prosper and be life giving. We see the importance of being a man or woman of our word.

There are times I haven’t walked this out with my wife, kids, friends, and family.  I can’t say I’m pitching a no hitter on this one, but as I am growing up in Christ, I sure do want to be a man who’s yes is yes, and no is no. This is a struggle in the world as well. We used to have handshakes when saying we would do something. Now, we have contracts with hidden languages. We have people who are good at finding loopholes, so things don’t have to be honored on both sides of the agreement. And thousands of years ago we have a gracious Father who instructed His people on doing what they say they would do.

What about you are you be a person of your word? Will you be a person of your word? As we strive to honor our word, we will see our relationships prosper and be life giving. So, let your yes be yes and you no be no.
