As a parent I always want what’s best for my sons even when they doubt that in moments of correction.   Israel continues to rebel, and He still reminds them of how to repent. In chapter 15 with the offerings and chapter 19 with the law of purification. Faced with Miriam’s death what do we see them saying? “Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here? And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.”” Numbers 20:4-5

Their current situation was not the Lord’s best for them. His promise was a land with monstrous fruit, flowing with milk and honey. Yet we see them reaping consequences of their rebellious heart. He doesn’t allow consequences because we deserve it. No, No, no… His desire is we see the fruit of our actions and turn back to Him. He always wants what’s best for us even rebellious times. We read, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord desires what’s best for you. Do you desire what’s best for you? We can find ourselves at times making decisions that don’t reflect the Lord’s best for us. Seek Him and His will (Matthew 6:33). If us as parents seek what’s best for our kids how much more does our Father in heaven who is both perfect and holy.
