Augustine once said about Holy Scripture: “In the Old Testament the New is concealed, in the New the Old is revealed.”

There are specific instructions dealing with the laws of purification for Israel. As we read through this chapter, we see the detail involved in each step. Even in this section of scripture we see Jesus, “And the priest shall take cedar wood and hyssop and scarlet, and cast them into the midst of the fire burning the heifer.” Numbers 19:6

Cedar wood, hyssop, and scarlet… Cedar is resistant to disease and rot. Some believe the cross Jesus was crucified on was made of cedar wood. Hyssop was offered to Jesus while He was being crucified. Scarlet, the color of blood, was the color of the “kings robe” they placed on Jesus to mock Him during his torturing prior to the crucifixion.

We see pictured here thousands of years before Jesus would be crucified to purify us from our sins (should be believe in faith His atoning death) cleansing happening with cedar, hyssop, and scarlet. Throughout the Old Testament we see representations of Jesus. Remember, “In the Old Testament the New is concealed, in the New the Old is revealed.”
