Nahum is a vision of the Lord about judgment on a nation who had turned from Him. Dates @100-150 years after Jonah warned Nineveh to repent (which they did) they returned to rejecting the Lord.
This prophesy shows us the character of God. "The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished... The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble, And He knows those who take refuge in Him." Nahum 1:3, 7
Nahum recognized even in the midst of judgment there's a stark contrast between rebellion and relationship. The Lord is described as being slow to anger and making sure the guilty are punished. But also as a God of strength to those He knows and who turn to Him.
Today, we choose to be rebellious to our Creator or to be in relationship w/Him. Peter shares hundreds of years later, "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." 2 Ptr 3:9
The Lord knows us and is so patience towards us. We should take courage in knowing His patience and longsuffering and this should lead us also to be of the same mind towards others. Let His light shine!
