I recently attended a funeral for my cousin. It was evident he accomplished loving people and living abundantly even while being confined to a wheelchair.

Jesus knows time is near for His crucifixion. He visits a man named Simon’s house. While there a woman pours an alabaster flask of costly oil on His head. “But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”” Matthew 26:8-9

They had been walking with Jesus for around 3 years. By this point He had told His disciples numerous times He would be crucified. This lady comes to Jesus worshiping Him and the disciples are concerned about funding ministry. They had watched Jesus’ feed thousands, the deaf hear, the blind see, the lame walk, and people getting saved. In this moment His disciples were focused on the wrong thing. They had gotten busy with life and ministry and lost their focus on the importance of His presence.

At the funeral my cousin mentioned how easy it is to get busy with work/life and forget the importance of love/family. When is the last time you spent time on a date with Jesus and/or quietly meditating on His goodness? If you are married, would you be married if you didn’t have dates getting to know your spouse better? Well, being a believer means we’re married to Jesus. Is your relationship with Jesus’ priority?

What about loving your blood family and spiritual family? When was the last time you had a meal around the table? When was the last time you cut your devices off and looked those you love in the eye and simply listened to them?   Don’t allow the busyness of life (and ministry) have you forgetting what’s important… loving the Lord and loving people. May the Lord quicken our hearts to want more of His presence. May the Lord make us better lovers of people.
