Questions, Questions, Questions...
Jesus shares another parable with the chief priests and Pharisees present which angers them. This chapter has multiple instances where Jesus is questioned. Jesus has taught so much through answering questions, but these questions were different.
In verse 16 the Pharisees send their disciples to try to trap Jesus in His words by asking him about tax money. Also, "On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him," (Matt 22:23). And lastly, "But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him," Matt 22:34-35.
These questions weren't questions of faith. Their intent was to divide and discourage not unify and encourage. In their heart they didn't want to know the answer. They wanted to keep doing what they do. Their questions didn't lead to change, but to deeper darkness.
We must ask ourselves, "Do we come to Jesus wanting more of Him or more of ourselves?" The Lord loves when we come to Him with our questions, affections, and to commune with Him. So spend time with Him, but do it with an open heart!
