“Son of David” says the blind men to Jesus as they sit on the side of the road. They had heard Jesus passing by with a multitude of people. They are told to be quiet, but they cried out again, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David”.   Seventeen times the term “Son of David” is said by people in the New Testament. This term is important because it speaks to what was in the heart of these men. Prior to this we read about the rich man who called Jesus, “Good Teacher”. There’s a big heart difference between “good teacher” and “Son of David”. David lived over 1000 years before Jesus walked the earth so how could He be his son? The Lord had told David He would establish his throne forever.

““When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom… And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’”” 2 Samuel 7:12, 16

When people said, “Son of David” they were recognizing Jesus as the Messiah, the deliverer, the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. He is much more than a “Good Teacher”, He is the Messiah.

Someone once told me they loved to take some of Jesus’ teachings that worked for them to help them live a better life. They much like the rich man didn’t grasp Jesus is more than a teacher… He is the Messiah. The One to come to save us from our sins and give us eternal life, the way to the Father.

Peter would later say, “let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”” Acts 4:10-12
