The difference between law and grace. Paul writes the law is our tutor to bring us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.

Now, Moses, Elijah, and Jesus are transfigured on a mountain before these men. We read, “While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.” Matthew 17:5-6

Thousands of years before the Lord visited the Israelites after Moses led them from captivity. We see a similar reaction when hearing the voice of the Lord. “Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was.” Exodus 20:19-21

Remember, Moses is a picture of the law and Jesus is the embodiment of grace. Look at what Jesus does that Moses couldn’t. “But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”” Matthew 17:7

It’s only by the grace of Jesus we’re able to be in His presence. The law (Moses) can’t make it happen, but Jesus can, and He does! By what Jesus has done we’ve been granted the ability to commune with the Lord of all creation. He made the way for you and me. The law brings recognition that there isn’t anything we can do, but grace brings us into the presence of the Lord.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
