In 1965 Paul Harvey recorded a broadcast, here is a snippet, “To the young I would whisper that the Bible is a myth, I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what's bad is good and what's good is 'square'.”
Notice Jesus is sitting down as he shares, “On that day Jesus had gone out of the house and was sitting by the sea.” (Matthew 13:1). In Jesus’ day if the rabbi was standing, he would preach and if he was sitting, he would teach. Jesus is sitting to teach. So, let’s learn :)
Jesus first shares the parable of the wheat and the tares (v24-30), he then teaches the meaning in (v38-43). Jesus says, “and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the weeds are the sons of the evil one; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.” Matthew 13:38-39
You know the biggest lie of the enemy? That Satan is allegory or not real. If he can convince us he isn’t working in this world then we don’t realize we are in a spiritual battle. Let me assure you there is a real enemy of your soul. Jesus is mighty at work for sure and… so is Satan to STEAL your time, talent, and treasure from being sowed into the kingdom of God. To KILL your relationship with Jesus. To DESTROY your desire for God’s work and calling on your life. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
Even though there is a real enemy let me say the grace, love, and mercy of God is way more important to meditate on. There’s just a reality Satan is real and working against you and wants to destroy your soul. Here is a link in case you want to listen to Paul Harvey’s broadcast from 1965.
