We fast forward thru the commercials. We want the “good stuff” without the fluff. Well, don’t fast forward thru the genealogies in the Bible because you will miss out on the “good stuff”.

Sin, prostitution, murder, adultery, and the likes are not missing from Jesus’ lineage. You get that? Jesus wasn’t immune to family troubles. It’s comforting to know Jesus dealt with life just like you and me. Now, as Matthew was recording particularly what Holy Spirit wanted him too there is a couple generations he didn’t include. You see it? “Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah.” Matthew 1:8-9

Ahaziah, Joash, and Amaziah are left out. Athaliah was Ahaziah’s mother. She attempted to murder all the heirs to the throne (See 2 Kings 11). If she would have succeeded, then the lineage of David would have been destroyed. Jesus couldn’t have been born thru the prophesied lineage. Joash was hid and eventually became king. It was a dark time to say the least, but even as dark as it was God still had an answer. Jesus’ lineage has some darkness in it.

There was darkness in Athaliah’s day. There’s no difference with the darkness of today. God has an answer even in the darkest of moments. Don’t allow the darkness of the day to blind you from seeing the power of God. Even in the darkest moment of Jesus’ life the light of the Resurrection was the answer. The same is true today!
