What stands out to you as you read Luke 1?

As I read today I am amazed of the goodness of God. He honored a man and woman who had served Him faithfully their entire lives making Elizabeth fruitful in her barren years.

Also take note on what the Lord said about the future John the Baptist, "He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."" Luke 1:17

When I think about Elijah I think about all the miraculous signs he did among the people. But that wasn't the Lord's focus. His focus was on Elijah's (and now John's) example of truth and love that would turn people to the coming Messiah, Jesus!

It's a reminder that signs and wonders are wonderful and encouraging, but our ability to love like Jesus and share the truth about Jesus is the focus. The greatest sign and wonders ever done? Turning rotten sinners into redeemed saints. Today, let's join in praying, loving, and serving in the name of Jesus (in the spirit of Elijah :)) with the heart to see people redeemed in Jesus!
