He is omni...
The word of the Lord comes again to Ezekiel as a riddle to share with the "rebellious house" of Israel. Yet even in the midst of their rebellion and coming judgment, the Lord reveals His grace and sovereignty.
"Thus says the Lord GOD: "I will take also one of the highest branches of the high cedar and set it out. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and will plant it on a high and prominent mountain... And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree and exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree and made the dry tree flourish; I, the LORD, have spoken and have done it."" Ezekiel 17:22, 24
Many understand the "tender one" as pointing prophetically to the Messiah, using imagery similar to other prophetic Scriptures. We also see a beautiful picture of the Lord's sovereignty.
God reigns over all creation with supreme authority and power. He is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), and omnipresent (present everywhere). Big words that reveal incredible truths about our God! His power, wisdom, and presence have always been and continue to be on full display.
And what we believe about God directly affects how we live. That's why understanding His sovereignty matters!
Israel lived as though they could do whatever they wanted, when they wanted, w/o regard for the Lord. Yet their rebellion never diminished His authority or prevented His purposes.
What about us? Do we truly believe He is sovereign? Do our lives reflect that belief?
Nothing that happened yesterday, happens today, or will happen tomorrow will ever surprise Him. And the beautiful truth is that the One who reigns over all things is also good, gracious, and merciful.
He is sovereign, and He can be trusted!
So whatever circumstances we face today, let's turn to Him with confidence, knowing He is both powerful enough to reign over all things and good enough to be trusted with our lives.
