Such a sad state! The Israelites had been in bondage for hundreds of years before the Lord used Moses to bring them freedom and Joshua led them to the promised land. Now, hundreds of years later they struggled with morality. They squandered what the Lord had so graciously given them. In this chapter we read of women being degraded, the lacking of hospitality, sexual deviancy, and rebelliousness of the Lord's commands.

However, in the middle of a nation in decline we read of the deeds of an older man, "The old man said, "Peace to you. Only let me take care of all your needs; however, do not spend the night in the open square." So he took him into his house and gave the donkeys fodder, and they washed their feet and ate and drank." Judges 19:20-21

A man unnamed, hard working, and hospitable was different in spite of the corruption around him. Today, let this be true of the Christian soldier. Let's fight the good fight of faith. No matter the condition of the nation. May we be a people who cherish the Father and His presence. May we shine with the love and heart of Christ, "For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;" 1 John 3:11.
