"What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” - Jesus

The disciples were young. They ranged from fifteen-ish to early twenty-ish at oldest. How they related to Jesus always gets me. One verse that makes me giggle is, ”Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.“ (John 13:23). I always picture a man leaning like that on Jesus’ chest… but the truth is these guys were young. No matter what age though they interacted with Jesus believing Him to be the Messiah. So, it was more than just looking at a fatherly figure, but they looked at Him as God of the universe. How do we interact with the Lord?

We go through seasons, maybe difficult… maybe painful… maybe even overwhelming moments of His goodness. Things happen and sometimes we don’t fully understand in the moment what’s happening or why. In these moments Jesus maybe would say to us, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” John 13:7

Whether it be a mountain top or valley experience how we relate to Him is important. Do we believe He is God of all creation? Do we believe this is all in His good plans? Do we trust we are His and nothing surprises Him? Is He saying to us now, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”
