You listening?

In John 1 we see the calling of the first disciples. It’s interesting how we see Nathaniel being called.

Jesus had just told Philip to follow Him and so Philip in his excitement shares with Nathaniel who is critical with the thought of Jesus being the Messiah. “Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip *said to him, “Come and see.”” John 1:45-46

How does Jesus handle Philip? “Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” John 1:47-49

Jesus spoke to Philip in the way Philip needed it most. He knew Philip and gave Him the opportunity to believe and follow Him. Jesus knows us. He knows our thoughts. He sees us right where we are. He has a fitting word at just the right time. The question is, “Are you listening?”

Jesus is present right now. He is speaking. He’s given us Holy Spirit so we can continually fellowship with Him. So, let’s listen… and let’s respond to His voice.
