The people's sinful decisions had came upon the land. Joel was given a message to share, like it or not, that there were consequences to a rebellious heart.

When we look back at the laws the Lord put into place in Exodus, Deut, and Lev. we see it's less about restrictions and more about how we relate with Him and others.

Now, the consequence of sin had affected Judah. In the midst of judgment we read, ""Yet even now," declares the Lord, "Return to Me with all your heart, And with fasting, weeping and mourning; And rend your heart and not your garments." Now return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness And relenting of evil. Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him..." Joel 2:12-14

I find this comforting. The Lord was still willing, wanting, and waiting to forgive even the gravest of offense. This is a clear example of His grace and mercy; and a clear example of a loving Father who desires to see the best for us. He is just and fair and He is willing, waiting, and wanting for us to turn to Him. Let this truth minister to your heart and draw you closer to Him today!
