Where do you turn?
The remnant of Judah turned to Egypt in hopes of finding protection from the Babylonians. Yet the Lord delivered a word of coming defeat for Egypt. Judah had once again turned to the wrong place for help. Even so, the Lord reminded them of His promises.
""But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, And do not be dismayed, O Israel! For behold, I will save you from afar, And your offspring from the land of their captivity; Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease; No one shall make him afraid. Do not fear, O Jacob My servant," says the LORD, "For I am with you; For I will make a complete end of all the nations To which I have driven you, But I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, For I will not leave you wholly unpunished."" Jeremiah 46:27-28
Judah continually turned to everyone but the Lord for help. Their unwillingness to trust and obey Him had contributed to the very circumstances they now faced, yet they still hadn't learned their lesson. Even in their disobedience, the Lord reminded them that while His correction was certain, so was restoration.
Where do you turn in times of trouble or when life is going well? Better yet, who do you turn to?
The record of Scripture, the testimony of creation, historical and archaeological evidence, and countless lives transformed by the Lord all point us to His faithfulness. Yet even with so many reasons to trust Him, we can still find ourselves turning to other people or things before turning to Him.
The truth is, we should be turning to the Lord in every season of life. He has given us every reason to trust Him, yet we like Judah, look everywhere else for what we should be seeking from Him?
Take a moment today and turn to the Lord. Praise Him for the good in your life. Seek His wisdom in times of uncertainty. Cry out to Him in your difficulties. Whatever the season, let Him be the first place you turn, not your last resort.
Turn to Him above all else!
