Just some figs.
The Lord shows Jeremiah two baskets of figs set before the temple. One basket is filled with good figs, while the other contains figs so bad they cannot be eaten. Through something as ordinary as figs, the Lord reveals something much greater, what He is doing with those being carried into captivity and those who remain in the land.
""Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans. For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up. Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart." Jeremiah 24:5-7
Once again, Jeremiah is receptive to what the Lord is revealing. God gives him prophetic insight into what He is doing and His heart toward His people.
We may not have a prophetic ministry like Jeremiah, but God has called each of us to know Him and to minister to others. Through His Word, His Spirit, prayer, circumstances, and even ordinary moments, the Lord can turn our attention toward Himself and remind us of His truth.
Are you paying attention?
Are you spending enough time with the Lord to recognize when He is directing your heart back to what He has already revealed in His Word?
God desires to work in our hearts and then to use our lives to minister His truth and love to others.
As we set our hearts and minds on the Lord, our perspective begins to change. We become less consumed with our little kingdoms and increasingly aware of His Kingdom.
Sometimes an ordinary moment can turn our attention to the things of God. God can use the ordinary things around us to remind us of His truth, draw our hearts toward Him, and teach us His heart.
