You never know.
Jeremiah delivers the word of the Lord to Judah during the reigns of the final kings before the Babylonian captivity: Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. Each of these kings did evil in the sight of the Lord.
The Lord called them to practice righteousness and justice. He warned them that their disobedience would bring judgment. Jeremiah records His words: "But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself," says the LORD, "that this house shall become a desolation." Jeremiah 22:5
These kings had opportunities to lead differently, but they did not choose well.
Now consider Josiah. He was the last king of Judah to lead the nation in significant spiritual reform before their decline. During his 31-year reign, Josiah sought the Lord, restored the temple, led the people back to the Word of God and the worship of the Lord (2 Kings 22-23; 2 Chron. 34-35).
Josiah got up each day and chose to pursue the Lord. His faithfulness affected the people around him. He used the influence for God's glory.
No matter how much, or how little, influence you think you have, what will you do with it?
Imagine getting up each day and choosing a life of worship and devotion to the Lord. Imagine that devotion overflowing into a missional life at home, at work, and in every relationship you have.
You may never see the full impact of your obedience. A conversation, a prayer, an act of service, a decision to live faithfully and loving your neighbor. God is the One who changes hearts and brings people to Himself, but He graciously allows us to participate in His work.
So, what are you going to do today?
We're not all gifted the same way, and we don't all have the same influence. But every believer has something to offer because God has uniquely equipped each of us.
Maybe you don't have to imagine it because you're already living this way. Keep going.
But if not, why not start today?
You never know what God may do through one life surrendered to Him.
