If so, what can't He do.
The Lord warns Israel about their idolatry. In this chapter, we find a conversation taking place between Jeremiah and the Lord.
Jeremiah recognizes something we should recognize as well: "He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion. When He utters His voice, There is a multitude of waters in the heavens: "And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries."" Jeremiah 10:12-13
Jeremiah didn't have the scientific understanding we have today of the water cycle, meteorology, or the vastness of the universe. Yet he understood something foundational: God is the Creator, and creation displays His wisdom, power, and authority.
Jeremiah's confidence in who God is should change the way we live, too.
The wonder of creation: the beauty of the stars, the power of ocean waves, the majesty of mountains, all points us toward the magnificence and power of our Creator. And if He created all of this by His wisdom and power, what could He possibly be unable to do?
Now, that doesn't mean God will do everything we ask. God acts according to His perfect wisdom and His will, not ours. But it does mean we never have to doubt whether He is able. Nothing is too difficult for Him.
So ask yourself: Have you placed a limit on what you believe God can do? Has that unbelief produced apathy in you? Have you stopped believing God can intervene? Have you quit asking, seeking, and trusting Him?
Oh Father, help us. I'm sorry for the ways I limit You in my life through my unbelief. Today, reignite my faith. Forgive me for the times I have stopped seeking You and trusting in Your power. Thank You for Your grace. Refresh my heart and renew my trust in You, Father. Help me remember who You are and live in light of Your greatness. In Jesus' name, amen!
