Competing voices...
Isaiah 36 closely mirrors the account found in 2 Kings 18:17-32. Assyria had already conquered much of Judah, and Jerusalem was next. Standing before the city, the Assyrian field commander deliberately spoke in Hebrew so everyone on the wall could understand his message. He declared:
"Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, "The Lord will deliver us." Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria?" Isaiah 36:18
Assyria's wanted to sow fear, weaken the people's confidence in God, and eventually remove them from their land so they could be controlled.
The enemy still works the same way today. One of his greatest attacks is to cause us to doubt God's faithfulness. If he can convince us that God cannot be trusted, he can influence how we think, respond, and live. What we believe about God will always shape the way we live.
There are many competing voices in our world, all telling us what to believe. But our understanding of who God is must come from His Word, not from our circumstances or the opinions around us. He was faithful long before you and I were born, and He will remain faithful for all eternity.
No matter your circumstances today do you believe He is faithful?
Take a few moments today to read Hebrews 11. Notice the men and women who trusted God's promises, often without seeing them fulfilled in their lifetime. They lived by faith because they believed God was faithful.
The same God they trusted is the God who remains faithful today. Believe that truth, and it will change the way you live each day.
