Ready or not!

Isaiah prophesies about a coming day of judgment upon the whole world. Some of his prophecies were fulfilled in history, but many point to what is still to come. Yet Isaiah leaves no doubt about their certainty:

"Search from the book of the Lord, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them." Isaiah 34:16

God's Word never fails. What He has spoken will come to pass.

As time goes on, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking the Lord's return is getting farther away rather than closer. But every passing day brings us one day nearer to His coming. Peter reminds us why the Lord has not yet returned: "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."

Jesus said His return would be like the days of Noah. People would be eating, drinking, marrying, and carrying on with everyday life, unaware that judgment was at the door. The blessings God has given us are good gifts to enjoy, but they should never distract us from living with eternity in view.

If Christ returned today, would He find us faithfully following Him, or comfortably drifting through life?

Father, help us to be aware of Your close return and our call to live for You today.
