!!Warning!!
Isaiah warns Jerusalem, and his prophecy comes to pass in 701 BC when the Assyrians surrounded and besieged the city. Yet the Lord intervenes and destroys them outside Jerusalem (2 Kings 19).
This warning to God's people then should also serve as a warning to us today.
"Therefore the Lord said: "Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men," Isaiah 29:13
A good question to ask is this:
Do we talk about Him more than we talk to Him?
Is our faith merely lip service or religious routine? Or are we being renewed by the Holy Spirit as we abide in Christ?
Today's heart check, at least for me, is to seek the Lord and His face, inviting Him to do His inner work within my heart.
Father, do a deep work in my heart. Do a deep work in the hearts of those reading this. Lead us into a deeper relationship with You, not just religious exercise. Produce in us fear and reverence in Your presence. In Jesus name, AMEN!
