I'm a news guy. In the news we all see the division in our world; even within our own nation. Everywhere you look, people are frustrated, divided, and convinced justice is failing. But there is hope.
Isaiah shares: "He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore." Isaiah 2:4
Isaiah points to a coming day of true peace and justice. No political party, alliance, or earthly leader can bring what only God can accomplish. True justice and lasting peace come from Him alone.
So what do we do until then?
Jeremiah gives us an answer: "And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace." Jeremiah 29:7
As followers of Christ, this world is not our home. We live in a place where justice falls short and peace is temporary, but until Jesus returns, we are called to be peacemakers. We are called to love others well and point people to the Hope that is coming. We are messengers of what and Who is greater to come.
Today, seek peace. Pray for your city. Carry the presence of Christ into every conversation and every interaction. Someone around you may need the hope of Jesus more than you realize.
Will you be a peacemaker? Will you carry the presence of Christ with you today? Will you speak Jesus to those in your sphere of influence today?
