We learn one way or another!
Isaiah is given a vision from the Lord concerning the future destruction of Babylon. At that time in history, both Assyria and Babylon were nations known for their strength, power, and splendor. Yet Isaiah prophesied that they would fall.
The Lord declares through Isaiah: "I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible." Isaiah 13:11
Babylon was a proud nation. They rejected the Lord and lived in opposition to His ways. In time, Isaiah's prophecies came to pass.
Why has God preserved this account for us today?
Could it be so we would learn from their mistakes? To examine our own hearts for pride and rebellion? To consider our ways and turn to the Lord while there is still time?
The truth is, we will learn one way or another. I know there are times when I choose the hard way. But when we come to passages like this, it is a good opportunity to pause and honestly evaluate our hearts before the Lord.
Ask Him to reveal where you may be relying on yourself instead of depending on Him. May today's reading lead you to the cross, where fresh mercy, grace, and forgiveness are always found.
