The Lord uses Isaiah to speak not only to Israel, but also to other nations concerning their arrogance and the judgment that would come because of it. Consider what Isaiah writes about the king of Assyria and the condition of his heart:

"For he says: "By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man." Isaiah 10:13

I would love to read the Bible and always identify with the righteous characters, but at times I recognize in myself the same pride and arrogance that was found in the king of Assyria. Today's reading is a good reminder to walk in humility; not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less.

"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." Romans 12:3

Pride goes before a fall. It has happened in every one of our lives. May we set our hearts on the Lord and walk in humility. When we resist humility, God has a way of humbling us. So let us come to Him, walk with Him, and allow Him to shape our hearts.
